Small bites to help you get the most from your Core Values Profile™

Merchant-Innovators
Innovator-Merchants

Poor is the man who does not know his own intrinsic worth and tends to measure everything by relative value. A man of financial wealth who values himself by his financial net worth is poorer than a poor man who values himself by his intrinsic self worth.
-- Sidney Mahwed

The Merchant core value of each person is that part which prizes talking and listening. In the opinion of a true Merchant, anyone can be influenced to see the greater vision by talking long enough. Just spend enough time in dialogue! Being in relationship is an end in itself. Meeting and talking is the most worthwhile activity. Does that sound like you?

Add to that the Innovator energy—the desire to observe and assess what’s going on, and make sense of it. As you are talking, you are watching and asking with the intent to learn more. You engage to learn. If you are first an Innovator with a secondary Merchant, you’re impatient to put your learning into a system, either an internal intellectual framework or an emotional framework. You are gathering facts and ideas so that you can figure things out.

With Merchant and Innovator as your highest values….

Can you imagine the frustration of the Banker in your life who simply wants to get the just-in-time information he/she asked for? You want to engage him/her in what you consider to be high-value conversation, building relationship. S/he wants the facts and wants to run. Basic conflict of interest!

Can you imagine the frustration of the Builder in your life who longs to make a decision on the information at hand, while you want to fill-in-the-blanks and play ‘What if….?”. In simple terms, the Builder is tapping his/her fingers on the desk, impatient to get on with it, while you are extending the conversation, expanding the vision and/or exploring the information base.
